Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) can lead to conditions such as rickets, osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, depression, stunt growth in children etc. Moreover, increasingly Indians are now faced with the challenge of poor sun exposure because of urbanization and related factors. The need is to supplement the lack of Vitamin D supplement in one's diet through other means. There are many products that provide Vitamin D supplement and still many
Indians suffer from VDD.
There's a gap indeed. This 'gap' served as an motivator for team Hidaa. Though their surveys, the team found that many people are reluctant to take the Vitamn D upplements as they are sourced from animals or chemically synthesized as vitamin D3 medicine. A vegetarian food source for vitamin D was yet to be identified.
With extensive research, the team has successfully developed natural vitamin D source product called, "D'bello," which is chemical free, 100% vegan, whole food nutrition from vegetable, cost effective and cooking stable. Available in a powder form, D'bello can be added to almost all kinds of Indian foods such as chapatti, dal, sabji, curd, andso on.
It does not alter the taste and texture of the food and suitable for all dietary habits. It can be used fresh dried or powder form. After successfully developing their prototype, the team went onto create awareness about the importance of Vitamin D.
As per the findings of a new study, researchers found that majority of Indians are Vitamin D deficient and this condition was significantly associated with people suffering from Type-2 diabetes hypertension and lead to a loss of bone density, which can contribute to osteoporosis and fractures (broken bones).
